.His Mercy is New everY mornInG.

Those who have read the bible must have encountered a few chapters that deal primarily on the genealogy of a tribe/person/house/Jesus. I used to wonder why the Holy Spirit put these chapters in. What are the benefits of knowing who's son is who's and who gave birth to who. Not to mention, reading the genealogy is like reading a lullaby. The next thing I know I was drooling on my bible. OOps.

Anyway, the point is there is nothing insignificant in the bible. Even the names of the character inside. Don't believe? Pastor Prince shared on this. Totally opened the eyes of the congregation!

Genesis 5
This is the written account of Adam's line.
When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God. 2 He created them male and female and blessed them. And when they were created, he called them "man. [a] "

3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth. 4 After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 5 Altogether, Adam lived 930 years, and then he died.

6 When Seth had lived 105 years, he became the father [b] of Enosh. 7 And after he became the father of Enosh, Seth lived 807 years and had other sons and daughters. 8 Altogether, Seth lived 912 years, and then he died.

9 When Enosh had lived 90 years, he became the father of Kenan. 10 And after he became the father of Kenan, Enosh lived 815 years and had other sons and daughters. 11 Altogether, Enosh lived 905 years, and then he died.

12 When Kenan had lived 70 years, he became the father of Mahalalel. 13 And after he became the father of Mahalalel, Kenan lived 840 years and had other sons and daughters. 14 Altogether, Kenan lived 910 years, and then he died.

15 When Mahalalel had lived 65 years, he became the father of Jared. 16 And after he became the father of Jared, Mahalalel lived 830 years and had other sons and daughters. 17 Altogether, Mahalalel lived 895 years, and then he died.

18 When Jared had lived 162 years, he became the father of Enoch. 19 And after he became the father of Enoch, Jared lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 20 Altogether, Jared lived 962 years, and then he died.

21 When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. 22 And after he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23 Altogether, Enoch lived 365 years. 24 Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.

25 When Methuselah had lived 187 years, he became the father of Lamech. 26 And after he became the father of Lamech, Methuselah lived 782 years and had other sons and daughters. 27 Altogether, Methuselah lived 969 years, and then he died.

28 When Lamech had lived 182 years, he had a son. 29 He named him Noah [c] and said, "He will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the LORD has cursed." 30 After Noah was born, Lamech lived 595 years and had other sons and daughters. 31 Altogether, Lamech lived 777 years, and then he died.

32 After Noah was 500 years old, he became the father of Shem, Ham and Japheth.

Notice those names I put in blue? Here's the meaning:
Adam - man
Seth - appointed/put
Enosh - Mortal man, sick
Cainan - possessor
Mahalalel - The Blessed God
Jared - come down
Enoch - teaching
Methuselah - his death will bring
Lamech - captive/slave
Noah - Rest

Combine them together, man was appointed sickness and possessor of mortal life (because of the fall of Adam into sin). The Blessed God will come down teaching that His death shall bring comfort/rest to the captives/slaves. WOW! hallelujah!

Nothing is insignificant in the bible!!
Notice that I highlighted the length of days of Methuselah - 969 years. He was the longest living man on earth. God prophesied the coming of the flood way before Noah was born. Wickedness and evil have polluted the earth so badly that God decided to wipe off the entire living creatures save Noah, his family and pairs of animals that went into the ark.

God always give signs before He does something. Why bother? These people deserved judgment. God is just and He must judge sins! He never fails to give signs because He wants us to recognise the signs and repent before it is too late. His heart is full of mercy and tenderness. If only human will just repent and confess their sins. God is just and faithful to wipe off their sins for eternity. The worst thing is we don't even realise how sinful we are.

So, back to Methuselah. He was the sign of the flood. When he dies, that is the sign that the flood is coming. God purposely delayed his passing away till the 969th year of his life. Almost a millennial time for men to repent and cried out to God for forgiveness. God knows what is going to happen way before the foundation of time. But He still go through all these troubles of waiting and waiting and giving many 2nd chances. He has eternity to do that.

The point is God is patience, merciful and loving towards us - mere human - who knows nothing but make Him angry all the time. Imagine those kids that are good at nothing but make their parents scream and shout all the time.

The bible is full of examples of God being SOOOOOOOOOOO patient with men. Yet, time and again we failed Him. Time and again He came through for us. He loved us with an everlasting love. Jesus, hung on the cross, ashamed and naked, has even sacrificed His life, glory, closeness to God the Father for our redemption.

So what are we waiting for? His hand is stretched out to you now. To take or not to take it, it will be the most important decision you ever make in your entire life. Don't reject Him.
